We designed these exercises to help you:
Think on your feet in multiple languages
Speak with clarity and confidence under pressure
Train your language reflexes with short daily exercises
Set aside 5–10 minutes each day.
Use your target languages, or mix and match for multilingual training.
Drill 1: 60-Second Lightning Talk
Goal: Build momentum in spontaneous speaking
Instructions:
Pick a random object around you (e.g. stapler, shoe, coffee cup).
Set a timer for 60 seconds.
Describe the object in as much detail as possible.
Use a different object and language each day.
Prompts:
What is it used for?
Where did you get it?
Why do you like or dislike it?
Example:
Language: Spanish
"Esta taza es de cerámica, blanca con dibujos azules. Me la regaló mi hermana hace dos años..."
Drill 2: Flip It Fast — Language Switching
Goal: Improve mental agility and fluency in two or more languages
Instructions:
Choose two working languages.
Translate each sentence as fast as you can.
Use a voice recorder or practice with a colleague.
Sentences:
“I’m not sure yet, let me double-check.”
“Can we reschedule the meeting?”
“Please clarify your last point.”
“That’s a great idea. Let’s try it.”
Variation: Add a third language for an extra challenge.
Drill 3: Fluency Fillers
Goal: Sound more fluent and natural during hesitation
Instructions:
Practice saying these fluency fillers with different tones: confident, thoughtful, persuasive.
English:
“Let me think…”
“Well, from my perspective…”
“That’s a good point, I’d say…”
French:
“Alors, voyons…”
“Bon, je dirais que…”
German:
“Also, ich denke…”
“Gute Frage. Vielleicht…”
Dutch:
“Even denken…”
“Nou ja, ik zou zeggen…”
Spanish:
“Bueno, desde mi punto de vista…”
“Déjame pensar un segundo…”
Drill 4: Rebuild the Sentence
Goal: Paraphrase and reframe ideas under pressure
Instructions:
Take a sentence.
Rephrase it three different ways in your target language.
Example:
Original: “We need to speed up this process.”
“Let’s accelerate the timeline.”
“Can we move a bit faster on this?”
“This part of the project is behind schedule.”
Repeat in multiple languages.
Drill 5: Emotion Shift
Goal: Express tone and intent clearly in another language
Instructions:
Choose a neutral phrase like “I understand.”
Now say it in:
A polite tone
A frustrated tone
A supportive tone
A persuasive tone
Do this in all your working languages.
Tip: Record yourself and listen to tone consistency.
